Karyna Svistelnytska

My name is Karyna Svistelnytska, and I am a Biology major at Stony Brook University on the pre-dental track. My journey in dentistry began in high school, where I first worked as a dental receptionist and discovered my passion for patient care and oral health. Currently, I work at Stony Brook Oral and Facial Surgery as a dental assistant where I continue to deepen my knowledge of the dental field through hands-on experience.

I was born in Ukraine and immigrated to the United States at a young age, carrying with me a deep awareness of the healthcare challenges. Many in Ukraine still face, especially during the current war. Growing up, I witnessed how limited access to dental care in Ukraine affected families. These early experiences inspired my passion for dentistry and my belief that oral health is a necessity, not a luxury.

Through my work at dental offices, I’ve seen just how critical dental care is. What may start as a minor issue—like a cavity or inflamed gums—can quickly escalate if left untreated. I’ve witnessed patients struggle with pain so severe that it affects their ability to focus, sleep, or eat. These experiences reinforced for me that oral health is not just about having a nice smile—it’s about maintaining daily function, and preventing life-altering health outcomes.

I’m especially grateful to Stony Brook Oral and Facial Surgery for donating supplies and supporting me in my journey. Their mentorship and generosity have helped bring this mission to life.

Dariya Kubska

My name is Dariya Kubska, and I am currently a student at Stony Brook University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. Alongside my studies, I work as a licensed pharmacy technician, where I witness firsthand the crucial role that medications play in patients' lives.

Every day, I see how access to the proper medication can bring comfort, improve health outcomes, and restore dignity. This has deepened my passion for science, healthcare, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Being born in Ukraine has significantly shaped the person I am today. With the war continuing to devastate communities across the country, I've felt a strong calling to give back to those affected. One way I've chosen to help is by working to provide over-the-counter (OTC) medications and basic health supplies to people in Ukraine.

Through this project, I aim to bridge that gap and bring support, health and hope to those who need it most. This mission is deeply personal to me. It combines my professional experience in pharmacy with my heritage and desire to make a real impact.

I want to thank POD Pharmacy and the pharmacists who supported and helped shape our initiative. Their guidance, encouragement, and belief in this mission played a critical role in turning an idea into a meaningful project that's now reaching people beyond borders.
